On user manuals

The new Samsung S5 comes with a 249 pages user manual, and I bet you need to read from front to back it if you want to use this phone.

The iPhone on the other hand, comes with a small leaflet that gives new users all the information they need to explore the device’s functionalities. In all truth, Apple does provide a downloadable , which is 162 pages long. The point is, nine out ten iPhone users go about using their phone without even wondering whether there’s a manual available.

More often than not, in the consumer space, if you need a manual to explain how to use your product, that means bad design. There are exceptions of course, and sometimes you really need to read the manual of a complex application, but I think Apple has done something special with the iPhone/iPad.
