Apple and personal data

:

Our business does not depend on collecting personal data. We have no interest in amassing personal information about our customers. We protect personal conversations by providing end-to-end encryption over iMessage and FaceTime. We do not store location data, Maps searches, or Siri requests in any identifiable form.

Some statistics:

Good luck if you’re storing your data with companies that rely on advertisements to generate profit.

Edit on 9th November 2013:

Many readers have pointed out that I have not taken into account iAd, the iOS advertising platform.
That is correct, in this post iAd is not mentioned. Maybe I’ve been over-zealous about it but I didn’t mention iAd because it has a negligible effect on Apple’s top line.

In fiscal year 2012, Apple made $ 125 million out of iAD against a total revenue of $ 156.6 billion. If my math is still good, iAd amounts to 0.0798% of the total revenue. We can probably assume that it’s negligible.
