AgileBits reports in its blog that already 100 apps have added support for 1Password’s App Extension. Extensions will be used in iOS 8 to augment the functionalities of an app by making it communicate with a second application.
In case of 1Password, its extension is going to be used to fill out username/password on selected apps and websites after authenticating with your fingerprint through Touch ID.
The extension is going to be even smarter though as the blog post points out:
Here’s the rundown of the skills we’ve added to the extension so far:
- Fill Logins, Credit Cards, and Identities into Safari
- Fill Logins into other third party apps (including web browsers) that add support for it
- Generate strong, unique passwords and create new Logins during a signup process
- Update a Login’s password if you change it in an app
iOS 8 should be just round the corner. We might even be able to install it on our iOS devices in less than a week.
