Facebook acquires WhatsApp for $19B

That’s a lot ofmoney for a messaging app, but obviously the value is in the users’ social graph. But I digress, the only link you need today is .

People often ask me why I tend to stick with software that is well established, well funded and with a clear roadmap. Seldom that means sticking with Apple’s standard applications or having to work harder to get the same results.

The reason for my seemingly conservative behaviour is because I always question what the developers of an app are after. Sadly, in this inflationary evaluation bubble, too many developers are eager to sell their apps to the best bidder together with the user’s data they collected throughout the years.

My advice is to avoid apps that behave like data silos, and prefer applications that use standard sync methods (iCloud, Dropbox, Box) instead of proprietary ones.
