How to make Audio Books from MP3 files using iTunes

Throughout the years I’ve collected a number of speeches and interviews that I recorded as MP3 files. These files obviously ended up in my iTunes music collection.

I regularly clean up my iTunes library and one thing that I wanted to do was to transform those speeches in Audio Books. The reason for doing so is that my music collection should only have music, nothing else. I hate when a good shuffle session is interrupted by some old speech.

It’s really easy to make an audio book from an MP3. Follow these steps:

  1. In iTunes right-click on the speech and select Create AAC Version
  2. Delete both the MP3 and the newly created AAC file
  3. Choose the option to Move to Trash the corresponding files
  4. Open your Trash and look for files with extension m4a. These are your AAC files
  5. Drag those files to your Desktop
  6. Change the extension to m4b
  7. Drag all your .m4b files to iTunes

Your Audio Books are now stored in the Books section of iTunes. Happy listening!
