iCloud Keychain vs 1Password

OS X Mavericks is going to introduce , an easy way to store and synchronize username/passwords across Apple devices.

In its basic form iCloud Keychain mimics what 1Password has been doing for years. One might wonder what 1Password offers that iCloud Keychain don’t.

In this forum AgileBits gives us the answers:

  • Use any browser you want, not just Safari
  • Use it cross platform
  • Know how the data is encrypted: http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password…in-design.html
  • Full control over how it syncs (USB, Dropbox or iCloud)
  • Advanced features like control over your generated passwords, you can set the strength and determine the needs for your use.
  • Organizational tools built in
  • Custom fields and sections to add your own data to existing templates
  • Support – If you run into trouble you can contact us directly for help.

I would also add the fact that in 1Password you can store applications’ license files.

I’ve been relying on 1Password for so many years that it’s become an irreplaceable tool for me. I’ll likely keep on using it at least until Apple’s solution proves to be equally robust. How about you?
